Hello all! Welcome to my blog. My name is Alyssa and here’s a little bit about me.
I started this health journey when i was 13. My parents decided to turn our eating habits around. During this time we were traveling the U.S. as missionaries, ministering at different camps and churches. Eating camp food can catch up to you very quickly. Needless to say, most of my teenage years i was a vegetarian (well mostly). When i was 14 my family moved to Tennessee, where BBQ is everywhere. And then in 2011 I married my “prince charming” , who likes to eat meat, and moved to Virginia. I now eat meat, but mostly venison, and grass fed, chemical free meats. I also started making dishes completely from scratch, and found that I loved cooking! I also enjoy raw foods too.
I am passionate about health, food, and writing. I hope you enjoy my blurbs of writing, and recipes. I remember my great-grandmother and how she would tell us kids stories of when she grew up not having electricity or a car, and how they grew all their food for the family in their backyard. That is why I named my blog “Pure Traditions”. I want to keep the traditions of our grandparents, and great grandparents, alive and pure. Going back to a time where people lived in community with each other, sharing recipes, material scraps, gossip, and advice. Where there were quilting circles, barn raising parties, harvest celebrations, and community events. Now we have internet, facebook, twitter, google, and television. I want to keep the traditions alive in this technological world we live in. Be old fashioned, be creative, be a community, be healthy, be who we were created to be.
